Technique Over Strength
More technical training, less reliance on the weight room. You don’t need unnatural size to reach the top.
When the throwing world was obsessed with getting bigger and stronger, Coach Wollman went the other way. “It became my intention to go about things differently — increase the emphasis on technical training and reduce the reliance on the weight room.”
He set out to prove that unnatural strength and size weren’t necessary to reach the pinnacle of track and field. Over 28 years at SMU, athletes coached this way earned 20 Olympic berths and 34 NCAA titles. The philosophy held — and it still defines every Second Eye session.
